Classic Licorice Candy
Aroma: Anise, woody, salty, candy, gummy, light floral.
FlavourArt Black Touch is a classic European style black licorice. This is a bit of a different taste compared to the American version of black licorice which is far sweeter and less complex. Black Touch tastes like anise, but it has more notes to it. It is slightly salty, which I am not sure how that ended up being achieved in this flavor, but there is a bit of a salty perception to it. It has a hint of woody back notes that are fascinating addition to the anise notes. There is also a slight almost black currant backnote in there, it’s kind of an ambiguous berry backnote, but if I had to make a guess it seems like a black currant type of note.
It does have that gummy candy kind of note that is partly floral, which is what I’ve experienced with most of the candy type additives. Using too much of this can result in some of those floral notes getting a bit overpowering and can turn into off notes and perfumy types of tastes, so if you push this flavor too far without counter-balancing it with sweet heavy flavors, you may end up with some seriously gross juice. So take it easy with this flavor at first while developing recipes with flavor.
Back Notes – 0.15% – 0.75%
Secondary Notes – 0.5% – 1.25%
Main Note – 0.85% – 2%
As a single flavor test the maximum amount of flavoring I could tolerate of this flavor is 2.75%. Which is pretty close to the upper end of FA’s recommended amounts. Going that high though needed a balance of sweetener to not go too floral. I used 1.5% TFA Sweetener originally to balance it as a single flavor, though it could have even taken up to 3% sweetener, though I would do 0.5% CAP super sweet if I were going to go with that one. With FLV sweetness I would do 0.70% Sweetness as a balance, I would also consider adding a little EM as well.

Add 0.5% CAP Super Sweet, or 0.75% FW Sweetener, or 1.25% TFA Sweetener, or 0.65% FLV Sweetness and add 0.35% of EM (or TFA Circus Cotton Candy.) This will give you even more of a candy type flavor and you do need sweetener to achieve a sweet enough version to replicate candy.
I like adding a bit of extra anise because Black Touch on it’s own is not quite anise enough for me as a person who prefers American black licorice over European/Australian style. If you are into the more European style you can omit the anise if you want and add that amount to the Black Touch amount.
Recipe 2 -- Spirited American Tobacco

In the US we have a brand of tobacco cigarette that is marketed as native American style. While this is partially a recreation of that, it is also a blending similar to an off brand of cigarette that was also a native style that I used to smoke when I worked at a tobacco shop in my younger days. It was heavy on the chocolate and licorice notes, something that might be unfamiliar to many smokers, but it is a delightful addition to the tobacco taste.
The coffee notes help enrich the tobacco notes as well as play with the licorice and cocoa notes. The subtle notes of this recipe aren’t slap you in the face obvious, they rest just behind the main tobacco notes playing with the aromas that are contained within the different tobacco blends.
Give this recipe about 2 to 3 weeks to steep for the tobaccos to be fully steeped. It can be vaped fresh, but the tobacco notes may be more up front than you’d want and the subtle back notes might be a little lost at first with tobaccos overpowering them.
